Members of the Erie Amateur Radio Society (EARS) successfully completed an emergency off-grid communications demonstration along the Presque Isle State Park coastline in Erie County. The exercise tested rapid deployment of portable solar panels, lithium iron phosphate battery banks, and Wire NVIS antennas.
During the 24-hour deployment, operators logged over 400 contacts on 40m and 80m SSB and CW across Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New York. The exercise demonstrated the reliability of solar-powered emergency stations for coastal and severe weather communications.
