The Westmoreland Emergency Amateur Radio Service (WEARS), in collaboration with the National Weather Service (NWS) Pittsburgh Forecast Office, hosted a comprehensive Skywarn Severe Weather Spotter class in Greensburg, Westmoreland County.
Over 65 licensed amateur radio operators attended the training, gaining skills in radar interpretation, cloud formation identification, severe storm reporting protocols, and radio net operation. Skywarn spotters serve as vital eyes on the ground for NWS meteorologists during severe summer storms and winter squalls.
