WPA Section Prepares for Annual Simulated Emergency Test Across Allegheny & Beaver

Western Pennsylvania Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) teams are finalizing preparations for the upcoming section-wide Simulated Emergency Test (SET). The exercise scenario simulates a blackout and loss of commercial telecommunications following a severe ice storm across Allegheny, Beaver, and surrounding Western PA counties.

Operators will deploy battery and generator power at local Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs), establishing primary voice links on local VHF/UHF repeater networks and HF NTS nets. Winlink packet radio gateways will handle digital emergency traffic, ensuring rapid transmission of health and welfare messages across the section.
